Righto! I think I'm getting in on this.

Good stuff! Miniwargaming is having one of their "Buy magnets and get free shipping!" sales, so I snagged the two Pythons they had left. I'm planning on trying to convert them into Crusaders, and fielding the displaced warriors (including the one that the Cataphract'd replace) as a Leagueless 3-gear unit.

Either that, or just using them for use in Heavy Gear Arena or as terrain, or something.

Just to be sure, the standard TV people build lists for is generally 1000, right? And "Post TN1940"? Is that a good level for new players also, or should that be dropped to 500 (or whatever)?

I ask for post 1940, because there's extra rules for upgrading Crusaders from IVs to Vs, which removes their vulnerability to haywire. Not even sure how many people use Haywire yet, but hey! May as well have my options open! :)

I think the better part of the IV-V upgrade is the upgraded mortar for the price of a MRP you probably won't use.

Ah, true! That part's pretty awesome too.

How's DP9's customer support for replacement bits, by the by? My Cataphract's heavy bazooka has a pretty substantial mould line in it that I'll need to GS to make level. It's a minor enough issue that I'll just fix it myself, but it'd be good to know, y'know?

Leagueless units are 4-gear minimum, unless you get something that counts as a heavy (Klemm, Jaxon, Mammoth, etc) which counts as two choices.

They're pretty awesome for just about anything. If you get in touch with them they'd probably be willing to send you a replacement. They also rarely have problems with special orders for bits & such. Like if you wanted 1 more gear for your leagueless group you can likely get in touch with them and they'd be willing to sell you 1 of whatever it is you're looking for.

Ahaa, missed that part. Well, it'll be incentive for me to pick up a 2-pack of something (Skirmishers/Shinobi, maybe?) to make a third combat group, I guess. Or proxy some xv15 stealthsuits for practice games, until I get more Gears. *grin*

Good to know! Like I said, it's something that I should be able to fix relatively easily, but if I get something later that's effed up beyond my ability to repair, it's good to know my bases are covered!

Colourscheme-wise, I'm not sure if I want to go with the standard PRDF Red/Grey colour, or do a Spirit Warriors scheme (light camo green/tan, bones and carapaces added on to armour).

For paint schemes you can do whatever you like. The "normal" schemes presented for the different factions are typically parade schemes. Gears are small enough to actually benefit from camouflage (4.5m is the average), so most factions do paint camo on their gears for combat operations.

Only altered super Soldiers you'll find in Heavy Gear are the GRELs. available to CEF and NuCoal (and in limited numbers to HAPF, Caprice, and Utopia as "allies"), and the En Koreshi, who are super-super soldiers available to a single sub-faction of NuCoal.

Yeah, if you're looking for Imaginary Numbers, look no further than CEF GRELs. Or if you're thinking more Ivan/Alisa/Emma than Serov/Lukav, you could do PAK or NuCoal GRELs - the ones left behind on Terra Nova after the first Earth invasion.

They're purple rather than pale and light-haired, but they're your best bet for Genetically Recombined Enhanced Legionnaires.

The En Koreshi, from NuCoal's Temple Heights sub-faction are even closer to the Imaginary Numbers, being pale, light-skinned, and golden-eyed, but they don't seem to pilot gears. Nope, they beat the crap out of giant robots with their bare hands!

Well, to be fair they're tougher than a Gear (armour 16 vs. a Hunter's armour 15) so why would they handicap themselves with a gear? :P
