Newbie looking for a game.

For crying out loud I download gear garage and I dunno why I'm surprise at this point its my typical luck the friggen HC-3A Command Cars is not in the program and I check my box and I don't have that extra which is suppose to give me the details I need for that model.

From the looks of it I'll have to email DP9 which I wanted to avoid as I always loath dealing with any customer support but I guess I have to do what I got to do.

If you are ever going to have to contact customer support, pray that it's for Dream Pod 9, the guy who's email i cited there, Robert, he's the owner of the company. Nice guy, will bend over backwards for you if you have a legitimate complaint. Makes even the famous Forge World "one little part missing? OK, we'll send you a whole new Titan." look like your stereotypical overseas call center jerk.

EDIT: Nvm found it. I check the DP9 board before and found a answer to my question 6 pages 5 of them is for utopia forces and 6 pages show the HC-3A Command Cars but its mark under a different name only by reading the fluff that I see its alternative name. I must say its really misleading as I was expecting the unit entry to be called HC-3A Command Cars but it actually was called CEF rapid reconnaissance and patrol squadron on the table of content page.

Like yeah way to confuse a new reader oh well no harm done I guess since I found what I was looking but still all that trouble.

I think that's pretty standard, you're not going to find rules in Codex Space Marine on how to add a Space Marine to your army, you'll find rules on how to add tactical squads, assault squads, etc. If anything it was MORE confusing before they did that since you were picking each individual member of your force and could make all kinds of wacky combinations.

EDIT 2: BTW when it says Elite and special is it because that unit can field both roles and I chose which role I want it to fill?

If you mean in the book you'll notice that it has icons beside those values. Core, Aux, Specialist, and Elite are equivalent to Troops, Fast Attack, etc. in 40K. Depending on what Priority Level you decide to build your army (pg 23 & 24 in the Field Manual) you have access to more or less of them. The Rapid Recon squad is used by two different forces: the CEF and Utopia (and previously by PAK) So depending on which of those armies your building it'll be specialist or elite. In CEF it's specialist, and Utopia it's elite. Don't know if the special appendix will show the PAK value for it or not, since that was made obsolete by Perfect Storm. (not sure how much of that you know, but figure better to be over-informative than leave you even more confused)

Well I seem to be starting to get the hang of this.

I still have to learn the acronym of this game so when you guys start typing huge wall's of text please bear in mind I'm still new some of what you guys told me at 1st really made my head spin but like I said I'm starting to get a better grasp at it.

Anyways as much as i think this blows I can't play any games with the CEF starter box as I have 2 light hover tanks ( Core ), 2 Rapid Reconnaissance and patrol, ( Special ) and a squad of Flails with a morgana ( Special )

So the way I see it I need to buy 1 Grell box or 2 light hover tanks box just to make my army legal

Sadly I can't make a 2nd squad of hover tank until the initial one is maxed at 3 but you guys already know that.

Now I am wondering that maybe the tanks would be more useful then grells I would also be looking at getting a interdiction frame squad.

There's an option for the LHTs to upgrade them to FLAIL crews, which will also make them a Specialist Choice. It does require minimum 3 squad members to do so (unless there's some errata I'm unaware of, I'll ask over on the Pod Forums). So the simplest means of making your force legal would be to purchase 1 additional LHT-71.

I'll advise against the Interdiction Squad, the BF2-21s are garbage. On paper they look like they're the happy medium between recon gear and trooper gear, but once you get them on the table you quickly realize they're the worst of both worlds. Not tough enough to be a trooper, not good enough electronics to be a scout. I'd honestly suggest you more towards either some Hovertanks, a Utopia Support Troupe, or a Caprice Patrol squad before getting the Interdiction squad. Now the Heavy frame squad, the BF2-19 can be a thing of beauty once you learn to use it.

Well as per the guys at the DP9 forums suggested I do I fixed up a little list.

since I have really no choice in the matter I'll have the proxie my flails as grells for the time being so a bit of a head up on that.

It comes up to a 600TV list.

2 rapid reconnaissance and patrol
1 of them is the army commander with def and ld +1 commander trait

2 light hovertanks

1 Grell infantry
each 4 groups of 3 comes with a light motar


Again warning anyone that wants to play a game vs me that this will be my very 1st game.
