Game Summit 2012 wrapup: Thank you!!

Postby Marquis » Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:28 am

Game Summit 2012 was our biggest and most exciting Game Summit event yet, and three days of smiling faces and amazing game playing made memories for attendees and staff alike. With over 860 game-loving souls at the event, it was an awesome celebration of pastimes, and new friends.

The Pavilion has never been bigger and more exciting than it was this year. With the support of local board game clubs, Ludo Outaouais and the participation of literally hundreds of board game lovers, it was packed from wall to wall for three days straight. Dice were rolling, cards were flipped, and smiles were everywhere. One of the most exciting new additions was the Game Designer's Lab, smack in the middle of the Pavilion, where game fans could meet the minds behind exciting new titles and try out some great demos. Gaming fans of all ages made the Game Summit Pavilion a success story once again.

If you were looking for something a little more involved than the average board game, the 2012 Arena had it in spades, exploding with wargaming excitement on every front. Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, Flames of War, Warmachine/Hordes, Heavy Gear and heroScape tournaments and pickup games were buzzing all through the weekend, and most tournaments saw record attendance. Our Den was full of awesome RPG action as Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder fans (along with other RPG-lovers) played their hearts out for three days and came back for more.

Once again, the 2012 Workshop taught young and old hobbyists about the joy of painting and modelling. With painting tutorials for all experience levels and contests as well as artists gathering to try their hand at a new skill, the Workshop remained packed from beginning to end and filled the floor with smiling faces.

Last but hardly least: Our famous Garage Sale brought down the house once more with killer deals on second-hand gaming goodies brought to the event by participants and sold thousands of dollars of gently-loved games and objects of geeky desire. If you've never seen a Game Summit Garage Sale in action, it's a sight to behold... and treasures are easy to find.

Without a doubt, our vendors brought smiles to many faces with awesome show deals on games and cool must-have-items of all sorts. We want to give a special shout-out to: Comic Book Shoppe, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle's and Toys on Fire. Game Summit wouldn't be Game Summit without you.

What's up next year? Game Summit will be back in full force in 2013 with new surprises to give gamers what they're looking for. More games, more vendors, more events, more prizes, and a healthy dose of the unexpected as we grow and evolve into one of the best gaming event you'll ever attend.

On behalf of the Game Summit organizers and coordinators, thanks for a great event and we'll see you next year!

(Thanks Corey for drafting up this report!)

If I knew I was drafting it up for you guys, I would have done it with more humor, more casual talk, and more jokes about Matt Varnish.

The average nerd was up on the Garage Sale quicker than Matt Varnish on a bunch of World War II miniatures.

Did that help? ;)
