Close Combat weapons will now have an AP value:

Chainfists: AP1
Powerfists: AP2
Powerweapons: AP3

That sounds awesome. Choppas and chainswords/axes ought to be AP5. I'll so start using my assault marines if that's the case.

Then they'd have to release a big long list of what models actually have choppas, chain swords and chanaxes, as all the entries in the codices say CCw.

Yes and No; the codices have entries for Chainswords, Combat Blades and Choppas (for example) in the Wargear section/stat blocks, but just says in the info section that they're CCWs. So they do have that backdoor option, at least.
40K Armies Played: Space Wolves, Space Sharks, Orks, Tau, eventually CSM (MSons + Bile)
Blood Bowl: Ought'Ta WAAAGH Roughriderz (Orcs), The North Spire Wendigoes (Norse) Iron-Wrath Krakens (Chaos Dwarfs, WIP), Scarlet Fliers (Dark Elves, WIP)
Heavy Gear Blitz/Arena: Peace River Defence Force, Paxton Gears in Arena
Necromunda: MacGuffin's Marauders (Van Saar)
Malifaux:Built: C.Hoffman Boxed: Rasputina, Pertitia, some extra models for both

(I'm Mike, by the way. Easier to remember than Tokkan, probably. DEFINITELY easier to pronounce)

They might just keep the current format, meaning close combat weapons have a universal profile (in this case, probably ap5), and only specialist weapons like dreadnaught weapons, powerfists and lightning claws have their own unique values. Either way, this new rule will make the rules more elegant but it makes you feel bad about guardsmen and small tyranid creatures.

Here's the same rumor expanded on with melodic accents

!!!Warning I dunno if fantasy does it it was just back in the day where I used to play!!!

What if they make it like back when I was playing fantasy where the difference in S vs T would reduce the Sv a model take in CC.

I kind of like that rule as it makes sense that a guy that is stronger would deal more damage vs a weaker guy then again I should not be applying logic to 40K it doesn't mix

I think GW have been exercising their backdoor options quite excessively lately. ;)

I guess that last part is true, but it's venturing into an anthropological discussion about the concept of race and whether or not it's essentially a fictional construct (a hotly debated topic).

And there's also a big difference between portraying a fictional group of racists and portraying a fiction in a racist way.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning there are no actual Eldar (or Group of People Who Look Vaguely Like Eldar) out there that could be offended by the intolerant ways of the Imperium.

I like the concept - A chainsword should be better at cutting through armor then a rusty knife etc. BUT i have no faith in GWs ability to implement this rule in a smart and logical manner..

Space racism differs grandly from Earth racism. Except in that both are fictional constructs meant to justify behaviour, whether real or imagined.
