As a guy who has spent a lot of time running 40k tournaments, I can say that yes... some people do.

You are going to have to clarify that. What do you mean specifically?

I mean that some people forget that a game can still be fun even if you lose.

I don't want to side-track the discussion, however. Most of the tournament-goers I deal with are really great sports and I don't want to make it sound like the Win-At-All-Costs players make up the bulk of my experience.

Yep. In my limited tourney experience, most people I've seen are having fun. But...I have seen some lousy losers.

Anybody ever here of the unwritten rule that if you get tabled that it is traditional to give the winner the lowest possible sportsmanship score? I haven't. This happened to a buddy of mine at GS. And he is one of the friendliest guys you'll meet. To me THAT is bad sportsmanship and obvioulsy the loser forgot the "fun" factor.

I however lucked out and had three opponents who did have fun. And so did I.

I believe Stelek has shown himself to be among them, which is why I feel he only understands part of what "game" means.

I haven't seen Stelek's losing tantrums on video, although I have certainly read through the fallout. His articles on the rules and gameplay of 40k give me the impression that he can barely stand the game.

And yet he has invested so much in it monetarily, and psychologically, that he just can't quit. So he soldiers on, spouting both wisdom and vitriol out onto the Internets, in an unending, yet quixotic, quest for self-actualization.

I think most Of use are guilty of losing our cool once and a while. I know I have. As for Understanding the game, nothing has worked better for me than just going out and playing. Talk through the game with your opponent and learn from your mistakes. Just my twI cents worth.
