Forge World Realm of Battle Gameboard Expansion Tiles

Postby Chimera » Thu Aug 04, 2011 3:38 pm

Check this out: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/REALM-OF-BATTLE-IMPERIAL-STRONGPOINT.html.

It's expensive but incredibly cool. The fact that they're going to be releasing a bunch of special terrain tiles like this is amazing. Now if only they did some xenos ones. It'd be nice to see a bastion from another army.

One piece, £70.

From the old Forgeworld Announcement email from April (since they don't mention it now),
Comprising a power generator, two reinforced defensive positions, dragons-teeth tank traps and huge, armoured blast doors dug into a central hill, the Imperial Strongpoint Expansion is cast from a hollow resin as durable and sturdy as the plastic Realm of Battle Gameboard tiles available from the main Games Workshop range.
40K Armies Played: Space Wolves, Space Sharks, Orks, Tau, eventually CSM (MSons + Bile)
Blood Bowl: Ought'Ta WAAAGH Roughriderz (Orcs), The North Spire Wendigoes (Norse) Iron-Wrath Krakens (Chaos Dwarfs, WIP), Scarlet Fliers (Dark Elves, WIP)
Heavy Gear Blitz/Arena: Peace River Defence Force, Paxton Gears in Arena
Necromunda: MacGuffin's Marauders (Van Saar)
Malifaux:Built: C.Hoffman Boxed: Rasputina, Pertitia, some extra models for both

(I'm Mike, by the way. Easier to remember than Tokkan, probably. DEFINITELY easier to pronounce)

I know, eh? It's a lot more detailed at least, and meshes with the hill portions. I guess if you've already shelled out for a Realm of Battle board, paying extra to reduce the time needed to customize your own panels might make sense. Or, if the cost is split between a gaming group, or something.

It's something to look into for sure, my only concern is how durable is this 2x2 tile going to be, says doesnt say here whats its made of on their site, if its a solid piece of resin your looking at extra weight, if they rib it like GW did then it wont be so bad but its durability may not be so good. I wanna see a video of them droping this board at various heights and dropping objects on it, see how much it holds up before it shatters

Yeah. They CLAIMED it was as durable and sturdy as the RoB boards... but this really is one of the "Show me don't tell me" cases.

(And now that's stuck in my head)
