Space marine HQs

With the exception of my first match, my HQ has always been Shrike (I play RG so it made sense). The trouble is Shrike tends to overpower assault squads. Generally whatever I hit with his unit is dead on my first assault phase. The marines all look around at the fallen enemies and high-five each other a bit, then right around the time of my opponent's shooting phase half or more die.

Just wondering what other people prefer to take as their captains. I mean, I like Shrike, just wondering what else was out there.
Plan B? Does running away while blindly shooting behind you count?

a chaplain with jump pack runs 115pts and makes you fearless and re-roll to hit the turn they charge. Even tho he lost his teeth in this edition, he is still the best supporting melee character.

You could also add a librian with jump pack for 125pts, and give them the power Force Dome to give the assault marines a +% invul save

155pts gets you a captain with jump pack and thunder hammer

If you want to get out of the "uber" character, consider just a plain librian with nullzone and "misc" power

master of forge with conversion beamer is a good "shooty" HQ

FUnny, I tried a chaplain in two games recently and didn't really see him do much. Maybe the problem is that I have him leading Vanguard in a rhino. I probably would have preferred to have him leading my assault marines in a rhino, but then I'd have to drop a flamer. I'm going to try out a beefy captain this weekend, I'll let you know how that goes.

On a related note, Do you guys think that the Storm shield upgrade on a captain/chapter master is worth it for the 3++ save considering that the guy already comes with a 4++ save?
