ok, so say i have one squad that is being flanked in close combat by 2 enemy squads A and B(all squads considered locked in combat).
on my turn i decide to hit squad A with my squad, squad A retaliates, what happens with squad B, since they were not attacked, they cannot react, or do they attack anyway...in MY assaut phase?

I don't know the answer to that but darn good question...

All squads involved(locked) in a cc will fight.
If your squad is locked with both of the other squads, both of the other squads get to go in your combat phase.

Also, a squad needs to have at least one model in base to base with the squad/unit it wants to hit at the start of combat.

so if im locked in CC with your unit i get to fight my turn and yours? regardless of if you hit me or not?

If you're in btb with one of my units, yes, you get to hit in my assault phase and yours, even if no attacks were directed at you.
