I've always had good success with Boltgun Metal, Wash with Badab Black, dry brush chain mail, VERY light drybrush Mithril

For "grey" metals, I generally do:

1. Undercoat black.
2. Heavy drybrush of Tin Bitz on metallic areas.
3. Regular drybrush of Boltgun Metal on metallic areas. I'd suggest going from top to bottom with the brushstrokes to simulate a light source that's coming from above.
4. Light drybrush of Chainmail or Mithril Silver - same idea with the brushwork as #3.
5. Badab Black wash.
6. Light drybrush of whatever grey metal looks like it would make sense when the Badab Black dries.

For "yellow" metals, I generally do:

1. Undercoat black.
2. Heavy drybrush of Tin Bitz on metallic areas.
3. Regular drybrush of a "brass" or dark gold colour on metallic areas.
4. Drybrush of Shining Gold. I'd suggest going from top to bottom with the brushstrokes to simulate a light source that's coming from above.
5. Devlan Mud wash.
6. Light drybrush with a 50:50 mix of Shining Gold and Mithril Silver - same idea with the brushwork as #3.

I just started with mine and I primed them the equivalent to boldgun and I just washed them blue. I am about to do a very watered down black wash to get the darkest shade and then start lightly going up through chainmail and mithril. The idea is to keep some of that blue shading throughout for a blue steel look. Will have to post up how they come out... right now they are very blue ....

Yeah I remember that blue tint from many tutorials. Personally it's not my bag, but it does fit the scheme very nicely. I've also seen some people that avoid the metallic layers and go straight for an actual dark grey. I may try that some time, but for now I do enjoy the shinies.
