Fallen DA - Rogue Trader Dreads

Postby Ikerkin » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:14 pm

I got my hands on couple of rogue trader dreadnoughts, and I'm wondering if I should convert the face into those of the modern dreads (slab faced monoliths)?

Opinions?

I'll be continuing to ask questions as I go, and eventually post pictures during the end of each stage.

If i recall correctly those dreads were fairly round with little to no straight edges so I do not think putting a rectangular face on them would look that good but it of course is just my opinion. I would however consider trying to give them more of a face/head like the forgeworld type dreads.

Actually the rogue trader ones seem to perfectly fit the slab faced dreadnought fronts, mainly because it already has a flat surface on it's chest.

Or you can make them into the Contemptor ones, with terminator helmets like I did:

THese were made from the Rogue trader Dreads.

To be fair it did take a bit of green stuff, but it fits now :P
The face itself is very round, but the front is fully covered by the dreadnought front so it doesn't show. The effect of having flat and round surfaces also helps the fanken-machine look.

I think it turned out great! I love the servitor and cable running into the dread. What's the story behind that?

Both my Rogue Trader dreads are meant to be ones that were on Caliban during the betrayal. During their transit in the warp, unlike many of the marines, the dreadnoughts of the fallen were forced to remain awake by the very processes meant to keep them alive. As a result many went mad, while other ripped apart their auditory and visual inputs to spare themselves from the warps unimaginable horrors. This one had to have the full containment capsule refitted to repair such damages.
While not the glorious emblems of the Imperium's strength they once were, they still house warriors of unimaginable prowess and experience. On occasion in the most dire of circumstances these dreadnoughts are called upon to provide their unrivaled might on the battlefield. In such cases a servitor accompanies the warrior, because without aid, the machine spirits of the dreadnought corrupted during their transit through the warp might take over and cause untold destruction on both sides.

Or at least that was what I was thinking.
