What do people use for compressors? Are external water/humidity traps still needed? How silent are compressors such as those from Cdn. Tire?

I use a compressor that was designed for a brad nailer. It was in the $100 range brand new. It is about as loud as a loud vacuum. When it runs, you can't carry on a conversation. To make it more bearable, I put it in a box with vents, and put it in another room, with blankets at the bottom of the door. Now it sounds tolerable.

I can get about 1-2mins of spraying before it kicks on and runs about 15 seconds
