Astorath the Grim

A little somethin somethin to break the monotony of working on my Stormraven. This is my first "finecast" experience, and well, let's just say that I will inspect the model through the package a little more thoroughly before I walk out of the store with it...

In the end, I think it turned out alright. I stuck to the "standard" paint scheme and really enjoyed all of the washing and dry brushing involved with this model.

Looks nice Dave.

What kind of "issues" did you have with your Finecast? Was it voids, air bubbles like normal resin models, or was it worse? :|

yes.. both... Major voids in one shoulder pad, jump pack and pouch detail on the front of the model. Not that I have any, but "liquid greenstuff" would not have corrected the issues. Never had issues like that with the metal figs and the level of detail was comparable.

There was also some minor misalignment with some of the cast. it was evident on Astorath's hands, with his fingers/axe handle not lining up properly on the piece.

At $30 for the figure, I expect a higher level of quality and will probably turn to ebay for the rest of the 5th ed characters that I don't yet have, specifically sourcing metal figs. I'm lucky that my codex is old enough that metals were produced.

Wow, you're a painting machine! I've never been a fan of this model but you've managed to make him look pretty good.

Re: Finecast: A lot of people open the blisters in-store to inspect them and if there are any major problems I *think* you can exchange it for another (though don't quote me on that).

This is generally how GW has always, or should always have, dealt with ANY defective product (except the opening pre-purchase part).
