Introductions, Moving to Ottawa

Postby Overlord » Sat May 19, 2012 9:40 pm

Hey, I'm planning on transferring to Carleton University in Fall and moving to Ottawa in August. Haven't found an apartment yet and am finishing paperwork right now but I'm really looking forward to the move.

In NB it's hard enough to find consistent play if any at all for Warhammer type stuff, and for some of the lesser know but up and coming games, or historical, it's more or less impossible. I'm hoping to get to know people around here, so I have been searching for the playgroups here and this forum looks active, as well as the centretown one. If it's not too much, anyone willing to introduce this group as well as perhaps the others active in Ottawa, especially student related groups, would be much appreciated. I'm also wondering what game systems are most active: I'm very flexible in that regard but can only carry up so much on the first trip.

Thank you in advance for any and all help!

Regards,

Flames of War is on the rise in Ottawa. There is still a strong 40k following. On the Quebec side Maliflux and Warmahordes is very popular. WHFB has a shrinking player base atm

You forgot about Heavy Gear Blitz! That's another up-and-coming game around these parts. There are about six or seven who play or have started playing recently, and hopefully several more after CanGames. :)

I don't know if they still do it, but the guys at the Ottawa Warmachine Club were playing Infinity (as well as some Spartan Games stuff): http://www.ottawawarmachineclub.com/ Oh, and Warmahordes, too. :D

You can find historical games (FOW, DBA, La Salle, Saga, and others) at the Ottawa Miniature Gamers: http://www.creasey.ca/omg/ You are better off signing up for the Yahoo Group than the forum; that is where all the action seems to happen.

This is probably your best location for GW stuff (and Heavy Gear and lots of FOW). The Centretown Warhammer Club has regular Warhammer players, but I see you are there.

If you play older Specialist Games (Epic, Warmaster), shoot me a PM.

Welcome to Ottawa!

If you do Flames of War and want to be versatile, try and get an army that can do mid and late war. Think T-34's, Panzer 4's, stugs, Tigers, Shermans, Panthers or Infantry. That way you'd have an army that can be mid and late! Plastic soldier company kits come with multiple barrels so if your good with magnets you can make multiple versions from the same kit!

I've always been an infantry player actually and my original coy was a first edition (got in at the very beginning of first ed, when the game was in its infancy) British rifle Mediterranean rifle coy that seemed to expand easily to late war. I was also planning on expanding to a nonstandard German infantry company (confident trained or reluctant veteran for late war, with option to be a generic mid war company as confident veteran) for mid and late as well. I really dislike "toys" so I found that the translation was always easy between mid late even with equipment (ie AT guns and STUGS over tigers and panthers). It would be great to et more info on the going ons of the FOW community there anyway. In many ways it was my favorite game over warhammer or at least in my comparatively low level of experience, I never got the opportunity to play it much though.
