Imagine if somebody distilled the internet and sprayed it all over one building.

There are wonderful costumes, and costumes so bad your eyes will bleed. Just about every facet of geekdom is enshrined somehow, and plenty for you to buy.

All told, its pretty awesome.

I second what Natesnation said, the way he described it is how i couldn't, but wanted to.

i already bought my ticket for this year and booked my hotel room.

oh if you do go, you will need to practice patience as walking around can feel like waiting in a giant building sized line... but yeah costumes galore, good and bad, lots of guests (Stan Lee, Capitaine Jean-Luc Picard... i mean Patrick Stewart, Sam Lafayette and Russell from True Blood, Shane and Darryl from The Walking Dead, the guys from boondock saints (evne though one is also part of Walking Dead, i know). great listing of guests this year. oh and a bajillion comics and independant artists, which i thought was really neat to see!

do get a good pair of sneakers too. :)

if you've been to the Ottawa Comicon this year, it's about 20 times cooler than that was...

I've gone to FanExpo four out of the last five years and have tickets for this year as well (Kevin Smith, woohoo!).

It's always a blast, but there are lots of people. If you don't deal well with crowds, just try and find yourself a (relatively) quiet spot or go out for some fresh air. Some years have been better than other as far as how organized the people are for the events and I&Is and stuff. The facilities are generally pretty decent (clean washrooms, AC in the main hall etc), but don't count on getting a wifi signal anywhere, and cell reception is sketchy at best.

If you can, try and stay somewhere close by. The year my group stayed at the Intercontinental was fantastic since it's connected to the convention center (it was raining outside and we didn't have to bring jackets!), but we got the distinct impression that some of the staff were less than thrilled with the 'con' people (dirty looks etc).

Another suggestion is to get the Deluxe pass if there's any left available. You end up getting in earlier, and don't have to worry as much about getting access to the different areas of the convention etc. We tried getting the basic ticket last year, and it wasn't worth the $15 it saved (case in point, I didn't even realize GameSummit had a presence there the first year because I never wandered into that area, and was quite disappointed to learn about it afterwards).
