Hey guys, I was recommended by a helpful tipster to post here regarding my CanGames demo. I've got a mech tabletop RPG that's somewhat early in development and hopefully soon approaching a commercial release runup, and I've hit a bit of a snag.
Due to various factors, like moving into the city proper and having to work out other issues, I wasn't able to get a booklet entry in time. While my demo is officially confirmed, it's not on the online schedule yet due to a clerical error, which can't be corrected because the schedule guy is out of town. And because I'm so early in development and my game is somewhat niche, I don't have a ready playerbase. I've been gathering art assets, trying to build up hype, and getting some friends to help out with the demo, but as it is...well, it might be an issue. (It doesn't help that my demo's on May 20th at 9 AM.) It'd be helpful if you guys could join in!
Oh, right, the game! Yes, you're probably wondering about that. The game is titled Lunar Reckoning 69, a lightweight and fast-paced RPG inspired by sources like Armored Core and VOTOMS. Heavy Gear fans, and DP9 fans in general, might find things to like here too. The core of the game revolves around speed, as fast mechs with fusion-powered rocket engines boost across the battlefield - Initiative, usually merely the order of battle, is used as a tactical point and a resource to be spent on movement and offense. There's plenty more data on the game across the net, including a Beta version on the forums.
This Beta, it should be said, is fully playable - it's hardly perfect, but groups can and have been running long campaigns with it. The fluff needs a rewrite, of course, which is in progress and will tighten up the game's presentation. The mechanics for the demo will be greatly expanded, and the demonstration materials, including the adventure, will form the basis of a Quick Start Guide which will allow anyone to get a taste of the game in very little time.
The demo itself will be an original adventure, entitled "Hull is Burning", keeping with the CanGames 2012 theme "Flames Across the Border". In the year LR 69, Ottawa is a prosperous Megacity, while across the Outaouais, old Gatineau is a shadow of its former self, struggling to maintain its identity. Players will face off with a modern offshoot of the FLQ, defend the people of Gatineau, and get a taste of the future of mechanized warfare.
Sorry if this is a bit wordy. This will be my first public demonstration, and though I'm confident my game is ready, it's still a bit nerve-wracking! I should be posting more preview content soon, including stuff relevant to the demo. I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have.
