I guess this is where I step in

Well, Warmachine's a 'simple' game where you control Heavy Steam powered warjacks... The game is quick and rough... you can have your warjacks slam, arm/head lock, throw enemies... The thing I like about the game is the quick and easy combat system...
I want to attack you, I roll 2 dice, add my MAT (melee attack) and I have to match or beat your Defence stat.
If I do, I then roll 2 dice and add the power of my weapon and for every point over your armor... you take a point of damage.
Then you can boost your attacks (add extra dice)
The other thing I love is that I don't need to bring a bunch of books or army builder print outs... I have a card for each warjack/character/unit and all the stats and effects are listed on it.
Now to answer your questions
How many points is standard?
The standard is 500pts, but other common point sizes are just the box set, 750pts and we've had a few 1000pts games (this will change drastically in the new edition ie: standard will be around 25 pts)
I see basic boxed sets that come with a warcaster, 2 light jacks and a heavy jack, how many points does this make?
It's roughly 300 pts, but all the box sets are pretty much balanced to fight each other
How much $ does an average army/team/band cost?
That depends... on what you like, you could make a 500pts army for not much, if you go Jack heavy... or you could spend more and use more troops...
It depends on your likes and play styles
I understand that there's a re-write to the rules coming soon, when does it drop?
They're coming out with a 2nd edition, which is currently in a beta test mode (you can download the rules and new stats). The new book for Warmachine will be out around Gencon time... then Hordes will be released as a beta and we'll see that in stores in the New Year... Now with this massive change, they'll also be releasing Army books a la Codex
Are there quickstart rules on the PP website somewhere?
You can download the quickstart rules and cards
hereIf you want to try the game or see one in action, we tend to be at fandom on Thursday and Fridays and Wizard's Tower stays open late on Tuesdays.
