How good are dragons

i know nothing about DnD

but i figured i would ask

how kick *** the dragons are,

are they all super awesome or are some so so,

can one person eat a dragon or does it take a big gang of ruffians

Depends on the edition, I found a very powerful character could take on a 2nd edition dragon (Assuming said character didn't care about magic resistance) in fact my Barbarian actually killed 2 in one fight once, of course he was way overly powered as most characters are at young ages.

3.0 and 3.5 I found the dragons much tougher, but even then with the right make up and right magical items for the situation it was possible, I know my dragonslayer ranger, with a bow that was tailed for killing evil dragons, killed one in 2 rounds doing really stupid damage.

But 4.0 I find that "Boss" fights which is generall what a dragon is are a lot longer to go through but that's just been my experience

2nd ed dragons were weak?!?!

As a GM I killed an entire 15th level party with a red dragon in 2nd ed. And a great wyrm gold dragon was just beyond sick and powerful... Things must have changed after I got out.

Well my bararian was way over 15th level, and any dragon can be weak if your properly prepared for it (Fire protection items, scrolls, or buffed up by other classes as it happened for my barbarian)

I did find them weak, unless there were forgotten realm dragons they had special rules int he grey boxset with the guy on the horse on the cover can't remember the name of the set but boy those dragons were damn tough.

This how you do it:

*Everyone sits down at the table full of Cheetos and Mountain Dew*
The DM exclaims in an ominous DM voice, "You have all gathered 'round my table to bear witness to the spectacle that is D&D in my campaign, Dragotopolis!"
Andrew butts in, "Roll to see if I'm getting drunk!"
The DM ignores Andrew's outburst and continues, "You will all be dragon characters! Let's roll up dragons!"

And that folks, is how you be effin' dragons!

And as for dragon mounts... go ahead! Slap that dragon's tail and show it who's boss! I can't even count the amount of times TSR wrote their main characters into a situation where they rode dragons.

Moral of the story, just because something isn't in the Player's Handbook, it doesn't mean you can't do it.

Ya, I am with SK on this. If a lone character was dropping 2 dragons on his own in 2ed you were doing something wrong. LOL. Maybe those were Wyverns
