Who are we?

Postby Orbital » Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:32 pm

In an echo of the classic Deep Space thread, I'd like to ask everyone to step forward and identify yourself and tell us about who you are. Name, location, age and what army (or armies) you play... plus something else about yourself that you choose. Make it as long or short as you like.

My name is Corey (some people call me Joel, which is my actual first name) and I'm a 39 year old dude who lives in Gatineau. I've been playing Eldar for 5 years. I tried Tau, I tried Sisters of Battle, I tried Dark Eldar and I even tried Skaven... but Eldar is the TRUE me, so I've purged everything else and am embracing my Space Elf destiny.

I'm also the head admin for this board, and I am the coordinator of an event called Game Summit. I also play guitar, write and I speak sign language.

I like long walks on the beach, getting caught in the rain, and sunsets.

Name's Mike.

I am a criminologist based in Toronto. I have been in the hobby since the early '90s, and did a stint as a GW redshirt for a few years. I used to lean more towards the painting aspect of the hobby than the gaming aspect, and lately, I'm lucky to get an hour or two a month to spend with a brush in hand. My other hobby is knifemaking, which is what takes up most of my free time these days.

I collect and paint Vampire Counts for Warhammer. My force is based on the Army of Sylvania concept. For 40K, my longest standing army is a force of Mentor Legion space marines, which is where I get my screen name. GW seems to have decided that the Mentor's chapter symbol should be a stylized raptor head instead of the original weird little owl head, but I refuse to change! I also have Alpha Legion and Ogre Kingdoms collections, though they are mostly for display.

A few pictures of my collection:

Some of my Vampire Counts (a zombie, a vampire, a zombie standard, and a zombie musician)

Some Ogres!

And Typhus, just for kicks

All the best,

My Name's Mark, (age 21... AKA Trulybored or marcus)

I currently live in Ottawa (Vanier to be precise), and am attending the University of Ottawa... studying Mechanical Engineering. Every now and then I head home to the GTA to visit my parents though.

I love the hobby aspect, though I normally spend too much time browsing the forums, or playing computer games to actually accomplish much. I also like to play, normally a couple of games a month.

My first army is Tau, though I've also built a small army of Nids, and am working on my Hellenic themed Eldar. I've also got a cool BFG Tau fleet. Also, I love history... so don't be suprised if I eventually cave in and get some Flames of War Canadians and/or Eyeties. All told, I've been into warhammer for about 3 years now, though I did some military scale modelling before then.

I'm 36 (ouch, getting old) and started collecting Citadel miniatures in 1984. I started playing WFB in 1989 and started playing 40K in 1996. I have gotten away form 40K lately since I prefer the specialist games and WFB alot more and my job limits my playing time. My first love was chaos and it still is.

Name, rank, and serial number, eh? Awesome.

Name: Jordan Louis
AKA: Steel_Paladin, Lord of Awesome, baglunch, The Guy Who Has Sanguinius On His Rhino, That Creepy Kid
Alive since: January 18, 1985 (24 in 2009)
Playing since: Roughly halfway through the reign of 3rd Edition, or about seven or eight years.
Armies on the go: Blood Angels Space Marines, Tau Empire, WHFB High Elves, BFG Adeptus Mechanicus
Armies played: Witch Hunters, Ulthwe Strike Force Eldar, Alaitoc Eldar, NECRO Van Saars (until they went missing...)
RL profession: The Source by Circuit City Sales Associate, Student in the Law Clerk (Intensive) program at Algonquin College, Aspiring Champion of Justice (and/or Lawyer), Carleton alumnus.
Other Hobbies: Console and PC strategy (RTS and SRPG), RPG, and FPS gamer; amateur illustrator; news, law, and politics junkie; overly polite shit-disturber.
Bilingual: Not quite.
Location: Kitchisippi, near Little Italy, Dow's Lake, the Experimental Farm, and the eastern part of Carling Avenue.

It all began when I bought the classic 3rd Edition starter set full of Marines and Dark Eldar, back in the days
when the starter sets came with full-size rulebooks. I was shown a few colour schemes by a buddy with whom
I occasionally played Magic: The Gathering, and chose the black and red of the Blood Angels. Later, I would be
enticed by the sleek lines of the Eldar Falcon and play Alaitoc and then an Ulthwe Strike Force army. When the
Tau arrived, my lust for anime-style giant robots, big guns, and sleek, hovering war machines led me to begin
that army as well. I also dipped my toe in the Fantasy High Elf army and the Witch Hunters as well. It was at
this time that, in anticipation of moving to Ottawa, I joined the Deep Space forum under the name 'baglunch'.

But it was not to last. Eager to fund my education and lighten my load in preparation for the fateful journey
to Ottawa, I sold my Blood Angels, Eldar, and High Elves, and brought only my Tau and Witch Hunters with me.
I would stick with those two forces until I was hired at Games Workshop St. Laurent in the summer of 2007.
This, along with the generous employee discount, led me to rebuild the Blood Angels, and later begin a new
High Elf army, both forces rising like a phoenix from the ashes.

So here I am today: a married man, a university graduate, an aspiring lawyer, and a committed wargamer.
I have neither played a game nor painted a model for about a month now, but I hope to return to the battle
as soon as possible.
