Question about Dark Elves symbology

Postby SkyBry » Fri Jul 24, 2009 2:17 pm

Hey all...

My son Connor is wondering about the standard bearer in his squad of Dark Elf Corsairs. He's putting them together, and finds there are two different tops for the battle standard... one that is like a dragon, one like an octopus (or kraken?). He's wondering if there is any specific meaning to these? Any input greatly appreciated!!

the one with the kraken is a similar symbol to special dark elf character Loki's helmet

Connor, I'm sorry, you still haven't found your father; he is not referencing you.

As for your question Brian; I looked it up and couldn't find anything to answer it. I think if it does not say anything in the Dark Elf Army Book (as I briefly looked it up online) then it is safe to assume that he just picks whichever one he thinks looks prettiest. Although, maybe more in depth research will uncover some deeper meaning; but I couldn't find anything.

If you can get your hands on it, the 5th Edition Army Book may have a bit more information for you. Also try looking into the novels about Malekith....

Good idea. One of my friends has that book. Let me know if you want me to take a look at it to see if there's more info in there.

I think I can be of some help here, the first banner top(the serpent) would probably be the standard used by a dark elf character mentioned in the fluff as "Kaldour the Visionary" it's essentially the sea serpent standard that you can take to make your corsair unit frenzied.

The Kraken head is the device of the "Tower of Blessed Dread" which is the black ark currently under Lokhir Fellheart's command.

Come ON. Willem Dafoe? Boondock Saints? The rest of that quote is much meaner.

And it's Horsley. :)
