new edition and older edition

Postby newborn » Wed Mar 03, 2010 12:16 am

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a article of some sort or perhaps someone can make a list for me on some major difference in rules from current edition of warhammer rules and the 6th edition rules. I'm asking this because I just recently rejoined the hobby and started off with reviving the 40k first since rules are much simpler there and I had years of experience with it. But with Fantasy even though I had a huge army I was mainly a collector back then, and only ever played 1 or 2 games and left hobby like 1 month right after I bought the older version of rule book. So with limited $$ I have now I'm thinking of taking it one step at a time and just relearn the rules first. Any help would be great.

1-The 8 lores of magic changed significantly, and got more powerful.
2-The effects of a miscast got allot worse.
3-Wizards can only use their own power dice and those in the pool to cast spells. They can no longer take other wizards power dice. Dispel dice are still a common pool.
4-You no longer panic if a fleeing unit goes past you. You now only panic if a unit of unit strength 5 or more flees through you.
5-If you overrun an opponent into an EXISTING combat, your attacks take place this round, not next round.
6-All panic, terror, etc.. tests have been standardized to 6".
7-Independent characters can always be targeted, even if within 6" of a unit, unless they are in a unit with at least 5 other models.
8-Units in combat are immune to psychology
9-Great weapons are +1 ST when used mounted, +2 ST on foot
10-Skirmishers now get marched blocked like everyone else
10-The way chargers are moved and units 'slide' to maximize changed slightly.

Of course, don't go out and buy 7th edition. GW in its 'great wisdom' has decided to release 8th edition this summer.
PLAYS: Daemons, Tomb Kings, Beastmen, Chaos Warriors, High Elves, Wood Elves (fantasy), Imperial Guard, Adeptus Titanicus (Epic), Eldar, Craftworld Eldar (BFG).

The rule is that no unit can march if they start within 8" of an enemy.

In 6th edition skirmishers ignored that rule.

In 7th they do not.

Watching a demo game at GW does not guarantee you will see all the rules as written in the book, if it slows play or decreases the "Wow that's a cool game!" factor it might get neglected...

newborn, if you want you can borrow my copy of 7th edition and have a look through it until you're more comfortable with the rules as they are now

Thanks for the offer Tatz, very kind of you offering help. For now I will just learn slowly by playing games by games since I usually not motivated on reading any book that I'm not currently in emergency need or interested lol, explains why I have yet read any new 40k codex yet since I came back. I just get lazy a lot of time XD

quick question, when a item says it allows you to reroll armor save, does that include ward saves? Coming from 40k it kinda cause little uncertainty

Also, in last edition Elven mithril barding doesn't get the -1 movement penalty for carveries so they can march full 18" instead 17, is that still exist? I took a glance through the new army book but doesn't seem to see that clarification anymore.

Armour save re-rolls do not include ward saves.

Elven Mithril barding now reduces your movement by 1" just like any normal barding, so elven cavalry move 8" and march 16".
