I help organize the Ottawa U RPGA game days each month. Let me know how many GM's you need and I should be able to get some for you. I spoke with maquis and JP at the Saturday event about this.
Here is what I would like to do for this event.
We order a bunch of RPGA Modules of various level ranges (for those not familiar, the ranges are 1-4, 4-7, 7-10, 11-14, 14-17 for now. We also have a bunch of faster, quicker stuff (probably D&D encounters events if possible) ready to go. I think this way we can cover both new players and experienced players.
For characters for new players here was my plan.
1. Ask what do you want your character to do, explain basic rolls
Leader: heal, make other characters stronger
Striker: high single target damage
Defender: high defenses and hit points, punish people who don't attack, you, protect your friends
Controller: Moderate damage to multiple targets, inhibit monsters form doing what they want
2. Suggest a few classes from that role and help player narrow down to one.
3. Suggest a race, help them choose powers, stats, feats etc. Characters don't need to be super optimized but should be functional and fun to play. No 14's in their primary stat etc.
4. After all mechanical stuff is done with the character, the player fills in characters personal details such as name, gender, age, hair color etc.
I would also like to if possible, bring my laptop with the character builder there and print the character sheets out for the player. I prefer to use printouts from the character builder as it eliminates the need for the new player to do the math of defenses etc, and means they don't have to refer to books to look up what their powers do during gameplay. This would mean we would need to obtain a printer and a power source on site, so I'm not sure if it is logistically feasible.
I will also be printing off a bunch of lower level characters as pregens we can just hand to people to play with.
