Starting Skaven in 8th

Postby Tokkan » Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:23 pm

Is it worthwhile to get the Battalion box for Skaven right now? I'm wondering if it's better to hold off in case the Isle of Blood set has all of the minis BoLS claims it has, and splitting two sets with someone to get double the skaven along with everything non-elfy in the set... My only issue is that if I don't have the minis now, so I'd need to proxy or borrow minis to get some practice games in...

Basically, all I have right now are 20 clanrats, 20 nightrunners/gutter runners, a doomwheel and a screaming bell kit (with no plague monks to pull it as a plague furnace).

Oh, and some of my brother's 5th ed orcs and gobbos, and the contents of the Skull pass set, about 20 pounds of metal dwarfs I got from Matt Varnish, and old chaos dwarfs.

Should I just get some practice games in with the Dorfs until the new starter kit comes out?

(Wait, that makes SENSE. that's CHEATING.)

Dude. Since I totally plan on getting myself a piece of the Island of Blood, I would totally take your Elves and raise you my Skaven. :D

DONE! :D

(Oh man that means I'd have 100 clan rats, in theory. I think I need more paint. And maybe an airbrush.)

Rats are a slippery slippery slope Tokkan... I think I was up to putting almost 300 models on the table at one point. That crazyness has subsided... One of the things I did to cut down on Rats was making all my slaves non-rats i.e. humans gobbos and dwarfs.

* EDIT

I'm totally getting two of those started sets too! Must find HE player to split with!

Brilliant! I certainly have enough of those from the Skull Pass kit! Mwahahahah!

(I'm looking forward to having a 6-man Rat Ogre unit too, eventually.)

Yea after painting 150 rats I didn't want to paint another 100 slaves...

Make sure to cut all the weapons off! You don't ACTUALLY want to give slaves weapons.

I always used them as flankers so I never gave them spears. If I didn't break the opposing unit with 5 ranks and outnumber and them with no ranks I was screwed anyway.

I'm thinking more in 8th edition terms, where there'd be first two ranks, extra rank/attack set for spears, and another extra rank for Horde.

I'll check that out when i read up more of the rules tonight. :)
