Units that take up multiple army slots

I guess the topic line kind of says it all.
So how do you work with those now? I'm thinking of the Goblin Hewer, which takes up both a Hero and a Rare choice in a Dwarf army, and two of the Dwarf named heroes who take up a Hero and a Lord choice each.
Basically what I'm asking is, how do you put something that takes up multiple unit slots into an army where unit slots don't matter? Do the points get taken out of your allowance for one unit type or both, or is there some means of dividing it up?
