VC army with no V ?

Postby KrysDagger » Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:59 pm

Question for you ... Maybe this has been said but lets just say it is late and my search skills are lacking..

FAQ:

Page 88 – Army List Entries
Ignore this page and use the rules for ‘Choosing Your Army’ in
the Warhammer rulebook.

Since that is the page that says your army needs a vampire to lead it... does that mean we can now have an army lead by a wight king or a Necromancer ?

I always liked the idea of a mostly skeleton army .. couple necomancers along just to heal units .. maybe on a bonecart. Marching could be a pain, but a vargulf and maybe some blood knights could solve that if needed (and we can do 2 to 3 vargulfs if we wanted and had the points.

Anyone else thought about this?

In doing a little more research this interesting bit came up ...

In a small game, say 1500pts you may be playing only 1 Vamp, a wight king.. and a necomancer. The wight king has the highest leadership (9 vs the vamp's 7) so unless he is the BSB he must be your general since:

the BRB says that character with higest leadership is the general
The army book no longer says a vampire must be the general
the army book says that a BSB can't be the general.

Another interesting bit... you can only march if you are within 6" of a vampire, or 12" of the general, so you can still march with a wight as general (from p. 33 of the Army book...)

Oddly enough this also means that you could use Konrad as a character ... he would be testing his stupidity on leadership 9 if he was within 12" of the general .. and he is a handful in close combat to say the lease.

Surely there is some other VC player here who has done some thinking on this... ?
[edit] ... wow.. I just noticed over 271 views .. with only Spanky posting anything ??? [edit]

Once the general dies the army crumbles, just like the last book. You test on the highest Ld in each unit in this case and take damage accordingly. The only difference is the general isn't necessarily a wizard anymore.

What he said ... :) ...

I just put together a little list...

Wight King - Flayed Hauberk, Sword of Kings (2+ AS and killing blow on 5,6)
Wight King - BSB Royal Standard of Strigos (all models in unit Hate everyone)
Necromancer - Nightshroud and dispell scroll, Invocation of N.

35 skeletons - FC, Spears, Magic Banner (Rank bonus up to +4)
30 Skeletons - FC, Spears
20 Grave Guard - FC - Banner of Barrows (+1 to hit for Wights)
Varghulf

1500 pts ... tough in combat.. just a little magic, just a little antimagic ... the ides is to have enough to keep units viable across the field ... and be tough in close combat ...

I can see all the bots that access the site in that way. I'm not a fantasy player, so I can't comment... but it seems like people are just reading because you said something interesting. Whatever it is, doesn't seem to be anything wrong from the pageview end of things.

It's not that unusually high, either. Other threads are getting way more traffic right now. You're just so damned fascinating maybe?

I can't really comment of the topic at hand, as I don't play VC, nor do I ever remember playing against them and I have only ever flipped through their codex.

On the matter of view counts, as you have mentioned in other places, I am a very active "lurker". I usually have the Game Summit forum open in the background when I'm at work and at home, so when a new post shows up, I'm usually pretty quick to read it. That being said, I repeatedly go to threads multiple times and can honestly say that I'm responsible for at least 10 of these views. If 60 people on this board are like me, there's 600 views. The title of your thread is a little more interesting than say a thread titled "2000pts of Ogres", which probably wouldn't get too many views at all.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

And maybe a new post will bring another 60 views
