come down to GW bayshore on tuesday afternoon, it's the fantasy night, and usually there will be atleast 2 games going on at same time, so that's your best bet to get a game in.

First of all i would like to say good luck with your history degree and what period are you studying?

If you want some good info on dark elves try the site druchii.net, it is the best one army forum out there.
I play both warriors and dark elves and I would have to say dark elves are my favorite between the two (and all other fantasy armies) because there models have a lot of the strong character that the fluff evokes which is also demonstrated by their rules. hope this helps :)

Don't let the propaganda gets you, those treacherous pale elf will always take advantage of you in the darkness of night in more than 1 way and throw you away like a cheap *** before dawn break.

Chaos and deamon is pretty strong and fun to play with, skaven just got tons of new model, and Orc/golbin will be getting a new book in just over a month. Undead is pretty dead, and yeah DE just emo loli perverts.

40k armies that interest me are Chaos Space Marines and Dark Eldar. I actually don't have any models, yet, but at least I have the 5th edition 40k rulebook. Please list the pros and cons of both armies that I mentioned specifically tactical options and cost.

Chaos Space Marines are very versatile. They have some of the best troop choices in the game, and great models. The biggest weakness is lack of anything "fast" like drop pods, land speeders as compared to normal marines.

Dark Eldar are all about hitting hard and finishing off your opponent before they hit back.

Don't let people fool you into thinking standard Codex: Marines are a "new players" army. yes, they are intact easy to learn, but difficult to master since most people gear armies to deal with them!

Realistically don't look too much into the rules when selecting an Army, since it will be you that is playing with it. If you love the models, you will paint them really nice, and enjoy playing with them alot more.

I have studied African history, some Russian history and the history of England, from the middle ages up to Tony Blair. I am currently studying the cultural history of the decline of the British Empire and Can-US Relations.

I enjoy the Sisters of Battle models but it seems that the army is in decline and that an update is not forthcoming. I have recently been considering a space marine army despite my initial preference for 'evil' armies. The range of minis for Blood Angels and Space Wolves interest me, what are their pros and cons?

I will add my own twist to this (with which Gahris may or may not agree): Marines *are* a new player's army. Easy to remember the stats, redundant functionality so every infantry can do every job at least passably, forgiving if you don't hug cover, etc.

But don't let people fool you into thinking Standard Codex: Marines can't be played with incredible finesse. I've seen lots of people play the "Run forward, shooting" style, but I've seen much, much more nuanced and deadly strategies than that as well. It's a good army to start when you're first beginning, but later when you're a vet who wants a challenge you can still enjoy them thoroughly.

Hi and welcome to the board.

There is a strong albeit small fantasy community in this area and some of us are dedicated to trying to grow that presence. I think 40k players just have more time on their hands because they have fewer models :)

As others pointed out, the CWC is a great place to get some fantasy games in as well. They have a fantasy tournament at Fandom II (on Laurier st downtown) today! and they have been running a great map based campaign over the past few months with 12 players playing weekly (In fact I just got eliminate :( )

Are Orbital mentioned there is the Warhammer Game Summit tournament coming up in a few weeks and I believe there is still room.

A bunch of us typically play out of the GW store in Bayshore every Tuesday. It's pretty much a trial by fire group with some pretty experienced (at least in the previous edition) players, but we're happy to tone it down and show people the ropes. I can lend you an army to play if you let me know your coming.

This is a great community with lots of great players. Enjoy and have fun!

Cheers,

Spanky.
I believe George Takai put it best when he said "Oh my".
