Back in Blue - Ultramarines question

Postby Wicked&Weird » Mon Apr 18, 2011 12:25 am

Hey Everyone,
I've been out of the hobby for...a long time and woke up the other day and got the urge to paint again - decided to pick up my old Ultramarine First Company list/scheme that I had started back in my St. Laurent days. I started painting away and realized that I have NO clue if any of the things I started are still legit choices (rules OR fluff-wise) for the first co. I checked around online and found strange and frightening terms and phrases like "Sternguard veterans" and "almost no terminators left in 1rst co." ...which...I'm not gonna lie...made me sad. on the inside. where the meat is.
Anyway... I was hoping you fine ladz could point me in the direction of some up to date Ultramarines fluff (for example; Agemman - still heading up the first co?) and/or educate me in the "current" composition of the first. I know it doesn't really matter from a painting standpoint (because I WILL paint too many terminators just because), but it'd be some helpful info if and when I decide to start looking for a game or two. I'm still using the (I'm assuming) old marine codex as a reference...so, if the new one has some decent stuff in it along the lines I'm after, a simple "suck it up and go buy the new codex, jerk" will suffice! I suppose I'll have to buy one eventually anyhow, but something in depth and readily available would be awesome. Thanks a bunch in advance folks. Hope to catch up with you lot soon,
Showler

Well holy crap! Welcome back, Mike.

I'm sort of hoping Derek, with his several companies of Ultramarines, sees this thread. He ought to be able to satisfy that question for you.

The Space Marines codex has a a section about chapter organisation, and a page for the Ultramarines specifically (p.17)

Its 1st company (all veterans) is led by Captain Agemman.
Veterans in the codex can be either Sternguard veterans (with special ammunition) or Vanguard veterans (can deep strike and assault same turn).
Terminators are of two types: either "regular" with Fist, Storm bolter with heavy weapon options, or "Assault" (claws, hammers, shields).

As far as I know, the Space Marines codex has no special rule (or character) that allows to field and all-Terminator force.

Welcome Back Mike!!!!!

Your bitterness and sarcasm was one of the reasons I loved going to St Laurent. I still recite some of your best rants to this day. :D

Hey thanks guys! Good to know you're all sill around!

yeah...I'm still pretty hateful.

Thanks too for the info. Looks like I'll have to man up and buy the new codex. Thankfully I wasn't really thinking of a FULL list of termies...I was more concerned with the new vets and the terminators I already had made up. Specifically the command squad...but, meh. I'll take some crappy pics later and see what you guys think -I'm sure I can use them for something! Thanks again! exclamation marks!

In truth, the newest incarnation of the generic (and Ultramarine,[no insult intended]) codex isn't much different with regards to troops and such. Nothing has been taken away from the old U codexs, and equipment loads haven't changed much either. Still, if you are going to play again, couldn't hurt to get the codex, or just go to GW and memorize their store copy!
