Table Designs

I'm looking to have a table in my game room and don't exactly know which style or how to make it

I'm looking to either do a 4x8, or two 4x4 boards. The table(s) must be able to have legs removed, folded or stored.

What I am thinking, is using a 4x8 piece of chipboard, reinforced along the length with some 1x3 wood boards to prevent the board from flexing. For legs, I would use two Sawhorse ?

i went with two 4x4 to make it easier to store. i used folding table legs and built it with a shelf under to store stuff, like dead models or in reserve, unfortunately i have little experience building stuff so i over did the reinforcements and they weigh in around 70lbs each. in fact ignore most of my post and go talk to corey. the one thing that i did really like about the tables i did make was the fact that they are tall enough you don't have to bend over all the time, saves your back during long games and for taller gamers.

Hollow doors that have not been pierced for doorknob/lock hardware would be another option for the table-top. You might also consider using a ping pong table.

What MandyL and I did is we surfed Kajiji for Table with Folding legs. And we found 2 for 40$ total.

Since I have the modular game table from GW I put that on top of the one to two tables and there is lots of room.

Plus this way if we're entertaining outside or having a large party we have extra tables to use.

Most doors would deform, they're made with very thin and unsupported (when on their side) wooden sheets.

I think, if I had room for it, I'd do one of those tables with the wings that fold down. I can't find the youtube video for the one I'm thinking of but there's a thread I found that has a similar one, to give the idea.

Wow...no, as I try to verbalize the differences I realize that's really not that close to what I'm thinking. Gosh, ok, here's something closer, just think longer flaps/wings on the sides with legs that folds under:

Basically, that's it, could have multiple shelves and wheels to roll around for storage (plus the previously mentioned longer flaps/wings on the sides with legs that folds under). Although, if you wanted a max 4x8 it would need to be about 3x2 when all folded up, which is lots of real estate. BUT it would store some supplies underneath saving space elsewhere and it could be used for all kinds of gaming, entertaining, etc, so the space would be well spent.

You can always make multiple boards to put on top of a real folding table or sawhorses, if you wanted various boards to play on (think I'd just keep them flat and have various terrain to change it up). Couple options from Canadian Tire regularly go on sale for cheap, table goes for $35 or $40 and the saw horses for $10 each (need 2):

I also echo the comment about the hollow door: Unless it's reinforced inside (which it most likely won't be), the surface will bow with time.

It depends on how the door is constructed. The ones that I have looked at have wooden framing inside all four edges, and corrugated cardboard reinforcement between the two door skins.

ive made a couple,

i start with 2 4x4 chipboard sheets(3/4" thick) or a 8x4, depends on your possible transpo methods.

i then screw a frame, made of 2x2's around the outer edges of table. then i insert and screw 3+ cross members in between the outer frame.

then you could add a side guard of 1x4's or something to protect the edging of the table.

and i always put a layer of 1inch foam on my table, even if its just flat.

works for me, wont be too heavy, and i assure you no warping.

i built a 4 by 8 using the instructions Corry has up on the drunken gamers blog and i put that on top of a 3 by 6 folding table i got at costco for $45 total cost with the folding table was about $100
