The pictures look good, but hoo-boy do they show off some poor strategic planning on my part. I don't think you would have lost the unit to emergency disembarkation there, but either way I was pretty soundly boxed in there. Fools rush in and all that!

Edit: To make it clear who'd fluffed it, if people couldn't tell from the picture!

To be honest I think that one of your biggest mistakes was not using your HVCs during the first two turns and running instead. You could have screwed up my plans quite a bit with a couple of decent rolls with them. You might not have gotten into combat until turn 3 but you could have possibly damaged one of my exorcists in the meantime and stopped their reign of terror.

Yeah, that was my surmise. What's the point of spending the points on the range and the hitting power of venom cannons if it doesn't get used? Mind you, I noticed quite a few more mistakes besides.

For example, I should have maximized the number of units in my army: I could have had three units of Lictors and two units of Termagants, and three units of Carnifexes with the same number of models.

That ties into holding both units of Genestealers back as outflankers. A better option in Spearhead, I think, would have been to hold them in ordinary reserve so they could co-ordinate their arrival with my outnumbered main force.

Splitting up my forces wasn't a good idea either. In hindsight I think splitting up the Lictors and reserving the entire army would be a better way to deploy, as well as easier. I mean, I wasted the seized initiative by trying to deny you shots by shooting first when not being there for the first turn would have certainly denied you a turn of shooting.

Then there was angling to shoot the Seraphim accompanying your Sister Superior. It would have been better to hang around outside of my 18" Deathspitter range. Just like last time they should have hung back.

Yeah. If I hadn't failed to get off that faith power then I would have crushed your warrior unit pretty badly with my charge. It would have been better to hang back a bit and wait for the stealers to get close enough to counter-charge (which they eventually did, though by that point the gaunts were nearly gone and the warriors were dead). It might have also have been a good idea to have the warriors charge along side the carnifex rather than trying to shoot at the Celestians. You would have likely ground down that unit of sisters eventually and if you were lucky you might have been able to eventually finish them off on my turn (you had pretty good odds of that in my opinion).

I think that your list needs more synapse creatures. Perhaps some zoanthropes or something. Right now you only have three so it's not that hard to deal with all of them, especially if they're all in two units.

Currently I'm considering swapping out two Carnifexen for a Hive Tyrant (Heavy Venom Cannon and Scything Talons) and a brood of Biovores. Not sure about the new Finecast range, as I think I'd either get a metal Hive Tyrant or make one out of a Carnifex kit and I'd probably make the Biovores out of a box of Warriors.

From what I hear finecast isn't that bad for the most part and that the defects that you hear about are by far the minority. Also, as an owner of the metal tyrant, I would recommend getting the finecast one. The metal one is a real pain to build and it can come apart very easily if you don't pin everything. My personal belief is that the extra $10 for the finecast one is most likely worth it.

To be honest I'm not sure how useful biovores will be. To me it seemed like the biggest problems with your list were difficulties in taking out vehicles and the lack of synapse. The tyrant helps with synapse (remember to convert a pair of tyrant guard while you're at it) while removing the fexes decreases anti-tank overall. The biovores would help against lists like ork mob lists, but if you face mech or MC heavy lists then they won't be doing very much at all.

So, update, and I thought I might put it here: I've gotten a job in Halifax and moved there. Hopefully I'll get to play in Ottawa again sometime. Until then, I always had good games in Ottawa, enjoyed playing with everyone I met, and wish you all the best!

Excellent.

I'm actually moving to Kitchener-Waterloo in a week and a day so if you ever find yourself in that area I'll play you. You were a great opponent.
