2400pts of Ogres (Not Feor's)

Hey, I was toying around with a few lists for Ogres and I thought this might be decent.

Lords
Slaughter Master (Lv4,Armour of Silvered Steel,Talisman of Preservation) 375

Heroes
Bruiser (BSB, Dragonhide Banner, Hv Armour, Lookout Gnoblar, XHW) 192
Butcher (Dispel Scroll) 125

Core
3x Bulls (XHW) 93
3x Bulls (XHW) 93
7x Bulls (Full Command, XHW) 247
8x Ironguts (Full Command, War Banner) 409
12x Gnoblars (Trappers) 55

Special
5x Mournfang Cavalry (Full Command, Hv Armour, Iron Fist) 380
Gorger 90
Gorger 90

Rare
Stornhorn 250

2399

So the idea is that the Slaughter Master and BSB go with the Ironguts and the Butcher goes with the 7x Bulls. Gnoblars take one flank and Mournfang Cav rush up the other, the rest pushes up through the middle. Gorgers come in from the backside and harass anything they can.

Thoughts?
Is this enough magic/too much?
Too many small units? This worked in 7th, not sure about 8th.
I don't have any ranged shooting, does this become too much of a handicap? (I have 2 scrappies and a new Ironblaster available)

Looks like a fun list to play against. Since it has to be decided ahead of game time, what lores of magic were you thinking for the casters? Also, is the butcher level 1 or 2? Either way, I think with a level 4 and 1(or 2), you should be fine for magic. If you the two small units of 3 ogres don't work out, you can always try them as one unit of six, without losing any basic attacks.

Thanks Matt. I like the idea of big monsters on the table. I want to use the FW Rhinox riders as counts-as Mournfang Cav. I was told they were the same base size.

The Butcher was Lv 1. And I don't know what lore to really take other than the required Maw on the Butcher.

I'm still concerned about the lack of shooting. I don't like skipping a phase entirely, but Ogres aren't realy known for their shooting. I could drop something and take some Belchers, a Scrappy or an Ironblaster.

I would play that list ... in fact .. challange accepted .. when can you swing by my place for a game ...

2 mages a lvl 4 and lvl2 is plenty.

rest is balanced.

yes, mournfang are same base size as rhinox cav so you are good there... and those cav are awesome...

When can we get in a game.

There is really no reason to be taking those small units of ogres. Combine all the bulls into one unit and that will give you a much better list. To take that butcher, you need to be really certain that he will give you access to spells that will really benefit your army, otherwise he will be set aside to cast an average amount of 7 power dice on only the level 4. The points he cost should be implemented to take (once again) larger units, that is the theme of 8th ed and the benefits to them are strongly reflected in the rules.

Possibly better, but the way I see it, much less interesting to play with or against.

Agreed, I just wanted to elaborate on one of his questions :)
