Random questions about 2nd ed

Postby Zamfir » Sun Oct 09, 2011 1:44 am

since I am getting a ton of 2nd ed stuff (rules and cards, and such) I thought I'd ask a few questions before trying to wrap my head around it
a- what was the typical points used in games
b- were the imperial agents a stand alone army thing, or an allies only deal
c- what sized bases were snotlings on

more random questions to come as they come to mind...

A -- 1500-3000 were common games but they took alot longer so 1500 was more prevelent unless you have the whole day...
B -- IIRC the imperial agents were mostly used as allies to other codecies however if a the front of the codex there is a break up for % of troops, suppport and HQ you could run em alone and to be fair the lower numbers would likley mess you up on any sort of win as a vindicare used to cost like 400pts+
C -- snotlings against the ork player i used to play against was a square 40mm base as they only came in red packs if you remember that form warhammer fantasy range and that was the only base they supplied for em...

2nd ed

pros: every weapon has unique and meaningful characteristics -- much more realistic in this manner than 3 ed or later
cons: overwatch kills movement; lots of terrain is a must..

2nd ed

Where a space marine with a bolter was one of the least cost effective units in the game
When eldar were beyond good, especially warp spiders
When space wolves could outshoot just about any army, despite the fact they were supposed to be HTH army
Where the balance of power between codices was so out of whack, that current players have absolutely no idea what codex creep really means.
Where a sword could parry a pistol
Where it was more dangerous to be inside a rhino that out in the middle of an open field
When it was quite possible for a character to kill an entire army on his own, and usually did.

Ah, the memories.

Most models cost twice as much as they do in the current system. So your armies will be small. 1500 was a good sized game, 2000 a big game. However, 1000 points was really too small a game to be fun.

Don't take the game seriously, don't try to optimize your list. Play for fun. This game was not balanced in the least. People who complain about balance in 5th edition have seen nothing yet.
PLAYS: Daemons, Tomb Kings, Beastmen, Chaos Warriors, High Elves, Wood Elves (fantasy), Imperial Guard, Adeptus Titanicus (Epic), Eldar, Craftworld Eldar (BFG).

GW back then, seems to have been just tossing things out for fun, since the market wasn't really theirs yet
thats the vibe I get from the colours they used...so bright
