I've been thinking about how to convert some Warriors into Lords and Crypteks. If I field a Lord, then he will probably have the upgrade to a Warscythe. If I field a Cryptek, then he will probably have a Staff of Light, or a Harbinger upgrade bearing an Abyssal Staff or a Voltaic Staff. I want some means to interchange the staffs and pole weapons.
The diagram on page 83 in the 2011 Necron Codex has some Wargear. While looking at the Staff of Light and the Rod of Covenant, "swizzle sticks" popped into my mind for what they looked like. Why not Necron swizzle sticks for wargear interchange?
In the assembly of a Warrior, if I cut the right arm holding the gun at the wrist, then I can glue a small piece of styrene tube to each of the wrists as hands. I should be able to arrange the arms in their shoulder sockets to receive a styrene rod through the styrene tube such that the styrene rod is near or on the vertical. The best combination for me from my experiments with rods and tubes is Styrene Rod #222 of 1/16" (1.6mm) and Styrene Tube #224 1/8" (3.2mm).
What ornaments should be on the swizzle sticks to represent the different weapons? I want to make the ornaments as intuitive as possible to my opponent as to function and/or name. Some ideas are as follows:
- Warscythe: An edged weapon on the side for a close-combat weapon as per the diagram.
- Abyssal Staff: A teardrop shape (painted glossy back?) to represent a Template weapon.
- Voltaic Staff: A piece of frayed steel wool (painted bolgun metal?) to represent Haywire shooting.
- Staff of Light - A bluish-white orb (perhaps to symbolize a white-dwarf star?).
Any suggestions for ornaments on Necron swizzle sticks?
