Ok so after a year (or thereabouts) I decided I wanted to pick up a 40k model to generate some interest in it for me. I picked a model I always wanted to paint: Nurgle Daemon Prince.
I've always though the model screamed 'Nurgle' to me, and would be a good primer for me to maybe start working on my Death Guard in anticipation of the rumored Legions codex coming out after 6th edition next year.
Alright down to the model. I opened it in the store to give it a quick once over, checking the head, weapon and overall detail. It looked good so I packed it up and headed home.
So the other day I break it out and start the VERY tedious process of removing the model from the resin sprues, while not destroying the fine bits. The amount of flash and excess resin was ridiculous. It took almost an hour of scraping, sanding and clipping to get the model ready, for one model....that is terrible.
And after all this crap, I find the chains attached to the sword, are also attached to the shoulder chimney via a large blob of resin that completely obscures the details and broke the chain during the extrication process.
So I decided to call mail order and see what they can do...well their hours are terrible now...basically 9-5pm...a far cry from the 9-12 hours during the 'good 'ol days'. So I wait and call them yesterday. I get a cocky young guy, who wants to convince me the model is fine and a little work with a hobby knife will make it all good.
After arguing with him for 10 minutes he relents (or gives up...not sure which) and says he will send me a replacement sprue with the sword on it. Great...won't get to assemble the model completely until next week...
Undaunted, today I pick up all the pieces and begin to assemble him.
The left hand...what I thought was a diseased set of fingers...turns out to be horrible miscast fingers.
Guess I'm headed into GW or calling them again tomorrow.
I'm glad of one thing though, this complete disaster by GW is at least proven to me now.
/rant off...goes off to assemble and paint Flames of War...
