Buzz on the VC forum has their book in Jan

I am very curious about this one.

I started pulling together a vc army with the book before the current. This will be book 3 for me with my army sill entirely untainted. Hope it will get me off my ass and painting these guys.

playing Lizards? Or just in general? cause everytime I've been in even on fantasy days, I've never seen a lizard army down, thats one I will have to invest into next year.

You'll see lots of lizards on the tourney scene since they are very good. Interesting that VC would be having a book so soon. I would assume this is just rumors for the sake of them, since other fantasy armies could use an update first, but who knows right.

the trend seems to be the armies without a standard magic phase are first priority.

From what I've heard, 8th ed. essentially castrated Vampire Counts and they went from one of the strongest armies in 7th ed. to one of the weakest in 8th.

I have a part-way assembled VC army myself and haven't played fantasy in over a year, so a new armybook for them may rekindle my interest :)

I think they went from OP and near unbeatable in 1000 point and other small scale games the way no army should be in 7th to actually fairly balanced in 8th.

still miss the bloodlines, this whole mix-match stuff is, well dumb
I do like the corpse cart, but wish Zombies were, well somewhat useful (before they sucked now they are just god awful, and never should be paid for, only raised)
and I wanna make a Strugoi army

I can see how they would have been tough as nails at 1000 during 7th edition (being able to summon extra models + Fear autobreak) but currently they're one of the most unplayable armies at low points values, since they can't field a credible summoner Wizard at that level, are stuck with some very poor Core choices, and can lose their General very easily at that size game.

That's likely the kind of thing that factors into them being redone, actually. The book was just completely scrambled and turned on its head by 8th edition, to a much more severe degree than any other book experienced (excluding Wood Elves). It's still possible to assemble a functional army, but it will be confined to a really small selection of unit choices. They're only "balanced" in the sense that many of their choices are equally unworthy of fielding.
