The iPhone has been able to do hotspots for nearly as long as android has.

That is my greatest concern about Android: I am seriously looking at the new Samsung Nexus because comes with ICS and because the Nexus phones come with a cleaner implementation. Which means that keeping the software up-to-date is way easier for the vendor. But every app writer still has to write for the lowest common denominator (ie: 10 years later corporations are still writing crap for IE6) -- all over the map for Android, whereas the adoption rates of iOS 5 are just too high so they get apps way faster.

Too bad; I wanted to be able to write my own apps for myself without going through an appstore (and without having to buy a Macbook/computer), etc/

And now you gotta give some thought to Carrier IQ. That's some squirrelly business there.

There's a saying that's served me well: If you want to learn about Chevy, don't ask a guy who sells Fords. I think it applies here because I can tell you didn't talk to someone who knows about iPhones. How do I know that? Because I tether with my iPhone using both wifi and bluetooth every single day.

Wanna see something kinda cool? Try a Windows Phone demo on your Android or iPhone.

As a guy who's been writing about tech stuff (primarily Apple) for almost 14 years, I have come to see a few facts as constant. One of those is: Salespeople at Future Shop, Staples and Best Buy do not know anything about Apple products. It doesn't matter whether there are Apple products sitting right there in front of them or that their store has been selling Apple products for years. They consistently know nothing. I have similar ignorance at Rogers, Telus and Bell, but the three aforementioned box stores take the cake.

If you want to know about Apple products, ask Apple about them.
