Hey All,

Thought I would start a painting blog and show the progress of my Ogre Army.
The first set of images is my finished unit of bulls.
I decided to try and model them all with Iron fists for somthing different. Anyways enjoy!

Thanks for all the great words so far everyone. Just completed my Ironguts. They were lots of fun to paint up. Abit more trickey then the bulls but the models allow for allot of personality. Nothing much new in terms of technique used.... just trying to re-fine the techniques I have learned.
Enjoy!

Next up are the LeadBelchers. They would have been done allot sooner but have other projects on the go. I wanted to give them a dirty Sooty... black gunpowder looks. Enjoy!

Looking really good. They certainly deserve to get their mold lines taken care of with that much effort in the painting, I think.

I agree. Been working hard to clear this issue up. More often then not I sand the mold line but not enough.. just need more practice. The one on the bellow I didnt notice til after the paint was on. To much of a pain to go back on it.

Thanks for the comments though!

Brian,

When I first saw the Ogres on the GW website, they did not impress me, and I held my negative tongue when you stated that you were selecting them. However, what you have done with the Ogres has impressed me. I went back to the GW site to try to find those pictures such that I could do a comparison, but I could only find some of them. The word that pops into my mind about the Ogres on the GW website is 'garish'. I can look at your Ogres for many minutes to enjoy the detail that you've done, but I can barely look at the Ogres on the GW website for a few seconds before I have had enough. That's my praise to you.

For the mold lines, perhaps you are not using the correct lighting conditions, or not using the correct tool and technique. Maybe there is a way to arrange the lighting conditions to cause/increase shadows and heighten crevices or ridges. Maybe there is a particular file or set of files and their use that you need to add to your tool set. Since I can't paint as well as you do, I don't have to worry about getting the surface absolutely perfect before painting, but maybe someone who does can offer such advice.

when it comes to mold lines my experience has been that a sharp knife (like the one GW has) works best for removal. Just take your time and be patient with it as to not damage your models.

Makes me really want to start work on my planned ogre army.

About how long per model are you spending? The paint job is great but I shudder to think of how long it would take to finish an army of them. I guess it isn't so bad since ogres have far fewer models than other armies but it makes me think negatively about gnobblars :(

Its hard for me to guess an exact time per model. I paint the ogres in batches of 3 or 4 and that takes around a week and a half. When I paint I also do an hour here or there rather then sitting for 4 hours straight. I find that way I come back fresh and never rush any piece. If I had to guess how long it takes for a batch of three or four if I sat down for a solid time chunk... problaly 8 or 9 hours.
The great thing about ogres is they have a very low number count. I started this army at the end of October... will have a working 1000 point force by mid Jan. Probally be completed the army by April. My army will have no Gnoblars in it though except for the ones that are added to Ogre bases. Im keeping this army pure gaint units. I really wanted an army I could focus on "personality" I feel that aspect would be lost painting 100 different models.
