2400 Dwarfs

So I got a really good deal on some dwarfs and I am now trying to make a 2400pt list with them, which is below, however the list is currently 166 points over so I could use some suggestions on how to tweak/reduce.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Note the only other models I have are a runesmith, slayer, and gyrocopter; and I do have the space bits from the warriors boxes that were used to build them (they are the older range)

If you are fielding a Lord who is not a rune lord you almost always want him on shield bearers. For what it gives you it is a comparativly cheap upgrade.
2 extra attacks
increased armour that can be combined with rune of stone

rest of the stuff looks good.

good to know about the shieldbearers, although it requires building it, but I will look into it. One downside, it brings me over the limit for Lords point wise:

I could drop the Rune of Resistance that I added but it seems useful.

any thoughts on how to cut points down?

The list looks pretty solid overall although I might be tempted to have the following tweaks:

1. Change the rangers into longbeards (fewer of them but better WS & S). They remain core but are better than regular warriors. Also consider giving them throwing axes as they toss them at S5 and always get to stand and shoot since they are quick to fire.
2. Shields for the missile troops - they are the second line infantry and the extra AS and parry save can make a difference.

Now, as for freeing up some points, here are a couple ideas:

1. The grudgethrower and cannon already have re-rolls to avoid misfires and the engineer with them allows a re-roll of any misfire that does occur. Given this, the master engineer character could easily be dropped.

2. The bolt thrower is not that great since it is the only war machine actually affected by cover and LOS (the others being laser guided artillery!!). This could be dropped entirely or at least remove the rune of reloading since it is wasted on a BT.

3. The dwarf lord is nice but doesn't do too much unless he is in combat. A decent thane character can be made up for half the points or you could likely even field 2 of them for the same points, thus giving more flexibility as to which unit(s) to beef up.

tweaks:
1. I thought about that but the models are the old plastic dwarves, their beards are really not that long so I don't feel quite right doing it, but I do like the bonuses it gives.
2. I had them in one version of the list and took them off to make some points, and because the bulk of the unit is Long Drong's Pirates.

freeing points:
1. dropping the engineer would mean I dont have to make that decision as to who he helps each turn, and free 75 points, and I did not actually have a proper model for him, so this would safe me having to come up with one
2. I have the model so want to at least try it but will take the suggestion on the rune
3. that is a good point, I will play with it, maybe I can make 2 so that they can go with the rangers and/or miners

So I am still tempted by the lord on shieldbearers now that I understand their bonuses but the points that the thane saves seems worth it for the moment. Other changes, added a shield to the runelord, uped miners to 20, to veteran from thunderers as it only gives an extra close combat attack, took the 3 extra guys off the warriors, took rune of reloading from cannon and bolt thrower. I think that covers it and it all now fits at exactly 2400.

Any more thoughts guys?

if you have to choose between RuneLord and Anvil ... and Lord on Shield Bearers .. the anvil should win. With dwarven leadership a BSB will be enough to keep everything around most of the time .. and the RuneLord is a great (if pricey choice).

As Stonecutter said ... you can run a perfectly fine army list without a Lord ... and to be honest most players know that a dwarf lord is going to be so hard to kill that they will avoid it. It can be hard to earn those points back if you don't have a way to get him into combat (rune of challenge kind of thing).

Rest of the list looks good. That unit of 20 miners is going to be scary when they come in. 20 strong is not much of a threat when it is accross the table, but when it comes on behind you or on the flank and can be moved with the anvil that unit will force your opponent to react, and we all know that making your opponent react to you is one of the first steps on the road to victory :)

That is my hope for the miners and rangers, reasonable sized gunline with a 3 way pincer of combat units.

ok, so made some more adjustments but now the list is over by 91 points but here it is, so suggestions would be great to fix this, one thought I have is to drop the bolt thrower but there still needs to be another 31 points dropped. Also, the lord on shieldbearers went back in to get access to the longbeards without another unit of warriors being needed and because I have gotten my hands on the white dwarf special edition shieldbearer model.

I think the blot thrower is a good unit to drop since it really is not that effective. For the remaining points, maybe lose the steam drill and the musician or standard bearer on the thunderers (whatever gets you in the points limit). The thunderers in fact might be better in 2 units since without shields they are complete squish and this way you can split fire and if an enemy unit hits them, you won't lose the whole unit at once.
