Righto! I think I'm getting in on this.

Then would guys say the CEF starter box be a good starting point?

http://store.dp9.com/product_info.php?products_id=578

or would getting it piecemeal be better?

I also look at some of C.E.F heavy frame unit and I find it funny how one of them have a striking resemblance of a Lenghe 1 wanzer.

Absolutely, especially since it comes with miniature versions of all the rulebooks you need to get started. :)

This seems to focus on hovertanks and FLAIL heavy infantry (think of them as though they used GRELs to make B-type Wanzer computers like in the first Front Mission, and then put them into robot suits).

For your purposes, I could see you running a Battleframe-heavy list, because you love Wanzers so much. ;)

Yep! As SP said, the starter sets are pretty awesome. The PDFs from RPGDriveThru can be handy as well, as they're cheaper versions of the full rules, but in full colour. They come with the Field Manual bundled as well! You can find the CEF-Specific one here.

DP9 is having a sale/deal currently as well, where you get $10 of stuff for every $50 you spend, so it's easy to get the movement indicator dice and counters (if you want them; they're not required, and there's paper versions for free).

Which is making it really hard to resist my temptation to get a Shinobi 2-pack and a Coyote. :D

(Edit: Eh, I caved. the weekly deal was for a two-pack of Heavy Gear Arena guys for Peace River, so... Yeah. I'm set for a while at least, now!)
40K Armies Played: Space Wolves, Space Sharks, Orks, Tau, eventually CSM (MSons + Bile)
Blood Bowl: Ought'Ta WAAAGH Roughriderz (Orcs), The North Spire Wendigoes (Norse) Iron-Wrath Krakens (Chaos Dwarfs, WIP), Scarlet Fliers (Dark Elves, WIP)
Heavy Gear Blitz/Arena: Peace River Defence Force, Paxton Gears in Arena
Necromunda: MacGuffin's Marauders (Van Saar)
Malifaux:Built: C.Hoffman Boxed: Rasputina, Pertitia, some extra models for both

(I'm Mike, by the way. Easier to remember than Tokkan, probably. DEFINITELY easier to pronounce)

i'll wait for them and just get that giant tank (or whatever the golems belong to)

Sure NuCoal has a starter. It's just $300 right now. ;)

Let's see... you can use the Golems with the Overlord super-heavy, but not the Jerboas, which are for NuCoal. I don't think PAK has access to the Overlord....

But, it includes EVERYTHING! 7 boxes of models (4 of which have 5 gears each), the rulebook (+pdf of it), AND A POINTING GUY! Specifically, this guy.

Hell, it's a starter and a finisher. ;)

Until you want Espions, or Sampsons, or Paratroopers, or the other two blisters you need in order to be able to use that pointing guy outside arena, or any of the mounted & motorized infantry options, or the tanks when they come out in a couple of months.

Don't worry, DP9 know how to keep you coming back to the trough. ;)

Awesome, though I think I will be smart and buy a starter before that tank (methinks it will be easier to learn the rules that way) I will have my overlord so help me god!

No, they wouldn't. The Overlord is a post War of the Alliance unit.

Yeah... I got it BEFORE they added the special-ed Lancier. :(

And yeah. Don't be surprised if it lets you start, and finish, at least two armies!
