Pacifque theater

A game for those who like their World War II re-enactments very, very small.

I'll speak up in defense of BF here, the compilations are pretty generally regarded as a good thing. More lists, more stuff, one book and it's hardcover to boot.

I'd like a pacific book but to be completely honest it would be very very low on my 'want' list from Battlefront. Cool idea but it just doesn't sound exciting. Much like how 'The Pacific' paled in comparison to Band of Brothers as a quick analogy.
Current Project: Painting/assembling Tau
Current Playable Armies: MW & LW USA - most lists available (FoW), Space Marines (40K), Imperial Guard (40K), Cygnar (Warmachine)
Future Projects: New Marine army @ 1850 (40K), LW US Infantry Army in Winter Gear @ 1780 (FoW), LW Canadian Infantry Army @ 1780 (FoW)

Th compliations are alright, and the do contain some extra lists but usually the added list tend to be ones that were free pdfs previously. But you actually do get a bit less information, for example d-1 had painting guides for the US and british paratroopers that included the information for all the different variets of uniform, so it had the colors for the normandy uniform, the uniform wore for the market garden jumps, and even the differences to pait your british as canadian paratroopers, all that is not included in the complication. The extra missions which were included in the books were also not included as well, in fact there is an entire book on how to play d-day games that is not included.

Similar issues with stalins onslaught and grey wolf, I played the sturm kompanie list a fair bit and it's not really very much different in the new book so if I just want to keep on using that list only then grey wolf is not a great value for me.

Some of the books are just not interesting to some people and I think that fine, for example stalins europe seems kind of pointless to me but maybe some people like it. Like wise I have zero interest in early war east front but others do. Same thing for the pacific.

It is 100% true that the pacfic sucked in comparison to band of brothers. Doesn't mean a thing about FoW-Pacific thou.

Thanks;
Mike

Yeah.. I have a HUGE interest in pacific theatre as I kinda interested in the whole IJN/IJA thing. I'm hoping that I can find/buy a full IJA army at historicon, they could fight vs my brits, vs USA, vs Aus, and a bit vs Russians (in EW only)

vs chineese...

there is a huge theater of war there, the chino-nipon war.

Not big, but still a few skirmishes that may be interesting for Historical recreation.

Actually, some rather big battles were fought during the Sino-Japanese War. They may not have been as big as those that were fought elsewhere, but they were still much bigger than skirmishes (which were also fought, of course).

Thing is, there were tonnes of fights all over that just didnt get any "press" BF can choose to either rehash the same major battles over and over, and some arent that major, like some of the one day battles, or choose cover battles no one has ever heard of. Since before Flames of War I didnt know much, all but the biggest battles were "new " to me, so I wouldnt mind more of those.

Down the road when we do more late war again, I'd like to get my Eastern Front sPzAbteilung done so I can get interested in all those battles on the other front!

Somebody has also published an unofficial Japanese supplement, which is available through eBay. Obviously, it would not be useable in a tournament, but should be fine in other games, especially in the context of a campaign, at least until BF get around to publishing their own.

Since we're talking historical gaming here, the unit organizations should not change much between rulesets that use a 1:1 representation scale, except for BF's tendency to allow a much bigger and varied proportion of support units, which are fun in any ruleset.

However, I suppose that you may want to wait if you're set on (eventually) buying BF product and don't want to buy from alternative manufacturers just before BF's own (eventual) release.

I was thinking if you wanted an Infantry list you could use a Russian one as counts-as and use the T-26 and T-28 as light and medium tanks
